We've now come to the end of Exodus and Matthew. In the last chapter of Exodus, the tabernacle is erected and the glory of the LORD fills it. God is present with his people. The last few verses are about God guiding the nation -- through the cloud that was over the tabernacle.

In the last few verses of Matthew, Jesus commissions his disciples and promises to be with them. His presence will be with them, guiding them, but in a new way than in previous generations.

God's presence is with us always through his Spirit. His is an abiding presence and a guiding presence.

"Coincidentally" the Psalm reading (Ps 23) is also about God's guidance. Like a shepherd he leads me to green pastures, to quiet waters, and along right paths. Proverbs 5:23 indicates that those who do not follow the guidance of the LORD will be lost and die because of their stupidity.
