Despite all the agony David expresses earlier in Psalm 38, there is still hope. "I hope in You, LORD; You will answer, Lord my God." (v15) The last verse is also full of hope as David calls to the Lord, acknowledging him as "my Savior".
How can you tell the difference? Folly calls out "Whoever is inexperienced, enter here!" (Pro 9:16). Wisdom calls out the same thing (9:4). Both offer bread and drink to the one who lacks sense. But Wisdom offers understanding and life (v6) while Folly's guests are deathly (v18).
We need discernment from the Holy Spirit to recognise Folly and Wisdom. We need empowerment from the Holy Spirit to resist Folly's temptation and accept Wisdom's invitation.
