Hi and welcome. Ashfield Baptist Church is a "caring community church sharing God's love". We are very diverse in our nationalities, backgrounds and ages, but united in our desire to grow spiritually and to reach out and help others. Our vision is "to be a body of Christ-like people living out the great commandment and the great commission in the Holy Spirit's power". This blog is mainly for people connected with Ashfield Baptist Church. It has been set up as an "info & chat space" as we start the "THRU IN 2" challenge. This is our program for reading the Bible right through during 2007 & 2008. Many are using the Every Day With Jesus Bible which also has daily devotions from Selwyn Hughes. As we read through the Bible together over these two years, we can use this blog to share insights, stories, reflections, questions etc. The goal is to grow spiritually together. My message on 29 July pm was titled "The Wisdom of an Aged Man (in an Acrostic)". The aged man wasn't me (but David at the end of his life), the wisdom wasn't mine (but God's through David, the psalm being a wisdom psalm), and the acrostic wasn't mine (but the psalm's, with every 2nd verse starting with the next letter of the Hebrew alphabet).
Here's a summary of the main themes I identified in the psalm and spoke on.
(1) Consider the future -- v1,2; 10,13,20; 35,36.
(2) Consider the LORD -- v3(Trust in); v4(take delight in); v5(commit your way to); v7(be still before and wait patiently for).
(3) Consider blessings -- throughout.
(4) Consider your way -- v5,23,34.
