Once again, I'm confused by Gideon. His reply to the Israelites when they want to make him king is spot on -- "I will not rule over you, and my son will not rule over you; the LORD will rule over you." (Jud 8:23) But then he collected gold and made an ephod and set it up in his hometown. What on earth was he thinking?! The people prostituted themselves with it there and it became a snare to Gideon. Not a wise move! Maybe it just shows the Judges were human, with weaknesses as well as strenghths -- just like us.

We've recently been looking at Psalm 55 where David describes the trauma of being betrayed. In the current passage from Luke, we see Judas betraying Jesus. Jesus knew that he would soon be killed on a cross. Hence his references to body given and blood shed. But as well, he knew who was going to betray him (Lk 22:21). The amazing love and grace of Jesus is shown in his willingness to share the Passover meal even with his betrayer.
