Jesus had been clearly telling his dsiciples about his impending death. Now he tells a parable about his death. It was mainly directed at the chief priests, scribes and elders and they knew it. They understood that they were the tenant farmers in the parable and that Jesus was caliming to be the son and heir they murder. But rather than heeding the rebuke, they send others to try and trap him (Mk 12:13). In so doing they defiantly take another step in bringing the parable to fulfilment.
