This is now the third time Jeus told his disciples about his impending suffering, death and resurrection (Mk 8:31; 9:31; 10:33,34).
After the first time, he taught them about the self-denial and cross-carrying required of followers.
After the second time, he taught them about servanthood, knowing they had been arguing about who was the greatest.
After this third time, there is a similar dispute between the disciples. Not only had they not learnt their lesson from last time, but they are totally insensitive to Jesus' disclosure. Jesus again has to teach them about servanthood.
He is the supreme example -- "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life -- a ransom for many" (10:45, one of the key verses in Mark!) Anyone else find this a challenging example?
