In this part of Psalm 35 David calls for the LORD to rise to his defense (v23) and to vindicate him (v24). This is what God does (again, in another way) for Moses and Aaron in Numbers 17. Aaron's staff budded and was kept as a "sign for the rebels" (v10). Jesus remains silent before his accusers (Mk 15:5), knowing that God will raise him to life again in the greatest act of vindication ever.

I'm challenged by David, Moses and Aaron , and especially Jeus. Too often I rush in to vindicate myself. How much better to leave it to God. He does a much better job of it. Self-vindication is often accompanied by a lust for revenge. The rightful desire to receive justice mutates into an obsessive desire for the punishment and suffering of the "enemy" out of all proportion to the wrong. But rarely with Moses and Aaron and David, and never with Jesus. With Jesus we see the opposite -- forgiveness.
