About Me
- Name: Ps John
- Location: Ashfield, Sydney, Australia
Hi and welcome. Ashfield Baptist Church is a "caring community church sharing God's love". We are very diverse in our nationalities, backgrounds and ages, but united in our desire to grow spiritually and to reach out and help others. Our vision is "to be a body of Christ-like people living out the great commandment and the great commission in the Holy Spirit's power". This blog is mainly for people connected with Ashfield Baptist Church. It has been set up as an "info & chat space" as we start the "THRU IN 2" challenge. This is our program for reading the Bible right through during 2007 & 2008. Many are using the Every Day With Jesus Bible which also has daily devotions from Selwyn Hughes. As we read through the Bible together over these two years, we can use this blog to share insights, stories, reflections, questions etc. The goal is to grow spiritually together. So leave your comments. Together we can help each other grow. Blessings. Ps John. In the latter chapters of Judges, there is something of a refrain about there being no king in Israel and the people doing whatever seemed right in their own eyes (eg 17:6, 18:1; 21:25). In Luke 23 we see that there was a King in Israel. But they Crucified him! And hung an inscription above his head - "This is the King of the Jews" (23:38). Many at that execution site hailed him as King, but only mockingly. Few seemed to believe he really was the King.
Oner of the criminals crucified next to Jesus did. He confessed his own sinfulness, acknowledged Jesus' sinlessness, and then with amazing spiritual insight asked the King, when entering His Kingdom, to remember him. Jesus assured him they would be together in paradise.
Luke is the only Gospel writer to record that one of the criminals had a change of heart. Once again Luke emphasises the love of Jesus for the "down and outs".
