Andrew had been a disciple of John the Baptist. But when John the Baptist introduced him to Jesus (John 1:36), Andrew became a follower of Jesus. Not long after, Andrew introduced his brother Peter to Jesus (1:42) and he became a disciple. After Philip became a disciple, he introduced Nathanael to Jesus (1:46) and he became a disciple too (1:49).
Who have I introduced to Christ? Who have you introduced to Christ? Anyobe ever? Anyone lately?
Gordon referred to John 1:26-27, 29-31 and made the following comments about baptism in the bulletin of Sunday 11 November 2007.
This Scripture passage reminds us that for us as Baptists, one of the strongest imperatives for the practice of believer's (or adult) baptism is that Jesus himself was baptised by John the Baptist in this way. Jeus did not of course need to be baptised as any evidence of the cleansing of his sin - he was after all the sinless Son of God! But the symbolism is undeniable as we see Jesus being baptised - and receiving the imprimatur of the Father as the dove representing the Holy Spirit came and settled upon him. This was truly the Son of God... and if Jesus, the sinless one, could be baptised in that way, how much more is it appropriate that we who have been cleansed by the shed blood of Christ through our faith in the work of Jesus on the cross should choose to bear witness to that cleansing through the same act, the same symbolism, that Jesus himself followed.
